DOPESHEET
An event took place in the rooms of the Roger Vivier fashion house with the artistic director Bruno Frisoni who presented a collection of 14 Haute Couture accessories entitled “Paris, Paris,” including 6 pairs of shoes. The shoes have vertiginous heels of 4.5 inches which required between them 50 hours of work and are adorned with multiple details (crystals, feathers, gems, sequins, etc.) which demonstrates an incredible savoir-faire. In ordering all of them, you would have to wait several months!

INTERVIEW with Bruno Frisoni, Artistic Director at Roger Vivier:

I’m simply calling this a couture collection and it’s true that for me shoes, bags and jewellery are clothes, so they are as important as couture clothes, which obviously explains the price and the number of hours spent on them.

I was inspired by a cover of vogue from 1963 which showed a very beautiful Christian Dior piece, a dress covered in floral print with embroideries of flowers and feathers. There were also Roger Vivier shoes in the same fabric and it reminded me of certain things that Roger Vivier used to do during his time with Dior. So what I primarily wanted was for the fabric to be painted, artistic fabric, partly inspired by Cy Twombly, an American painter who paints very beautiful, abstract flowers on very clear, very large backgrounds. Then I wanted it to be embroidered and detailed with flowers and feathers. Also I wanted an organic, architectural side to it; a bit like how nowadays Zaha Hadid makes completely organic things.

An important time in fashion history was the disappearance of Monsieur Saint-Laurent, it was a turning point for Haute Couture and it’s true that later on I wanted to reuse the wheat motif embroidery that he used with Monsieur Lesage so I called François Lesage and asked him if he still had it, he found it and agreed that we could do the design together so I reused the embroidery and redesigned the piece which I have named “Monsieur” because when we say monsieur in fashion, we mean Monsieur Saint-Laurent.
